We are all back, safe and sound from our team retreat! It was a wonderful time of team-building, planning, resting and enjoying time with the other members of the team! There were swimming lessons (as always- but the water was pretty cold!), a Pit death match (its a card game we always play... to the death) and a lot of discussions about why we are the way we are and how we all think or in other words, learning about the motivations behind our teammates reactions. We have an incredibly diverse team- not only ethnically but personality-wise too. And so much of our perception of things are colored by our cultures that even those of us with similar personalities express and interpret things different ways. So it was so interesting to sit down and figure out how we all tick. And how the things I say and do can be so easily misinterpreted.
We acutally got back more then a week ago, but as it always seems to do when you take some time off, life was insane when we got back. Not only were there all the things we needed to do that were waiting for us, new situations crept up too. I love taking a break but why is it always so crazy when you come back??
We had a double memorial service to host the day we got back- that was amazing by the way. And a ton of work was waiting but I think we are now back in the swing of things and have caught up on all the other stuff we missed when we were gone. I hope. We never seem to completely catch up but that's life- particularly life with refugees.
